Tips to make walking easier and safer

Wear shoes with good support and cushioning. Dress in layers so you can adjust if you get warm. Bring water especially in hot weather. Choose safe routes with good lighting and smooth paths. Tell someone where you are walking if going alone. Carry your phone for emergencies.

Check your feet daily for any cuts or blisters. People with diabetes need extra foot care. Walk at times when your blood sugar is stable not too high or low. Carry fast-acting sugar like glucose tablets just in case. Stop immediately if you feel dizzy, very tired, or have chest pain.
